Galtee Mountains/Lough Muskry - Greenane Mountain (802m)

Wild Tipperary

The Galtees are Ireland’s highest inland mountain range. As the name suggests, the Galtymore is the highest peak within the range and stands at 918 metres.

The Galtee Mountains have five pre glacial lakes accessible only by foot to add more attractiveness with amazing views of the Galtees; Lough's Curra, Diheen, Borheen, Muskry and Farbreaga.

Lough Muskry

Lough Muskry is the largest of the 5 glacial cirques lakes on the northern slope of the Galtees at the foothills of Greenane Mountain (802m)Getting there and back there is more than 20Km moderate to hard on foot through woodland and beautiful sceneries. Prepare yourself with water, snacks, and waterproof clothing preferably in layers, we all know how unpredictable Irish weather is!

Beautiful scenery and the cliffs of the Galtee Mountains

The walking route it runs first through the forest of Glen of Aherlow bear right up on leaving trees leading through woodland, beautiful scenery and the cliffs of the Galtee Mountains.

My personal record as we gained height were an abundance of beautiful wildflowers, some of which are featured here. Foxglove, Knapweed and beautiful pink Heather bloom abundantly. I need to comeback in Spring for the Rhododendron time!
